Science Vocab Words

Science Vocab Words--

•Binary Fission—A type of asexual reproduction which occurs in unicellular organisms
•In binary fission the living prokaryotic cell divides into two parts which each have the potential to grow into the size of the original

•Asexual Reproduction--Only one parent is involved in asexual reproduction so the genes which are inherited by the offspring make the offspring identical to its parent

•Budding is a form of asexual reproduction in single-celled organisms. It’s different from binary fission in the way that the ‘offspring’ are not the same size as the parent or each other
•Budding also happens in multi-cellular organisms, like hydras and sponges

•Sexual reproduction requires two parents and occurs in multi-cellular organisms.
•The offspring that are created from sexual reproduction inherit a mix of traits from both parents.
•The best example of sexual reproduction is the human species.

•Bacterial Conjugation--Immediate transmission of Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from one bacterial cell to another
